Handling Poor Performance

You must follow a specific procedure for handling poor performers. In addition to being a sound management practice, there are legal considerations as well. The following steps need to be taken when an employee’s performance is not satisfactory.

Step 1:. Coaching

Coaching occurs when you work with an employee to remove barriers to optimum work performance. This should occur after you review expectations with the employee. You use coaching when an employee has a performance or attitude problem, or shows a lack of knowledge about job responsibilities.
