Social Interaction

Many jobs provide adequate opportunity to satisfy social needs. However, other jobs do not. Problems can arise when people with high social needs occupy jobs with little built-in opportunity to satisfy those needs. When this occurs, needs are typically satisfied in non-productive ways.

People with unsatisfied high social needs tend to waste not only their time but also the time of others in close proximity. They tend to be drop-in visitors with no particular agenda—or a very superficial one. Having dropped in, their conversations often are difficult to terminate.
