Visitors

Controlling time taken up by visitors requires both courtesy and judgment. As a starting point, limit the number of people you invite to your work area. If you need to meet with a colleague at your facility, go to his or her work area. This way you can simply excuse yourself when your task is accomplished. It is often more difficult to get people to leave your area than it is for you to leave theirs.

Discourage drop-in visitors by turning your desk away from the door. When people see you are busy, they tend to not interrupt. Also, you might consider closing your door, if you have one, when you need to concentrate.
