Sorting Incoming Mail

Incoming documents arriving either from internal sources or external mail deserve special attention. While standing at your mailbox, cubicle or central distribution and pick-up area, do an initial screening. Throw away or recycle as much as possible prior to returning to your desk. This is the time for ruthlessness. Most non-first-class mail is junk. How likely are you to need this information?

What remains should be sorted into logical divisions. You have three options for sorting incoming mail: (1) by priority (2) by action or (3) by date.
