Tracking Delegated Work

If you delegate regularly and, therefore, need to remember who you asked to do what and by when, a separate tracking tool for work assigned to others can be helpful. This Project Monitoring Form is one of the pieces of paper that can and should remain out on your desk.

The Title of Task column requires only enough information for you to understand the assignment. Delegated To should carry the person’s first name or initials only, whichever is fast and recognizable. The Date Given and the Due Date columns are the key to staying on top of the work. Filling these in when the assignment is given removes any ambiguity on your part and on theirs. The Status Check date refers to a time or times when you want to be informed of the progress of the work. This lets you know the assignment has not been forgotten by the other person and eliminates your need to ask them every other day, “How’s it going?”
