Chapter 29. Establish Your Criteria

It’s not easy to tell how successful you are in meeting your goals and objectives unless you have some standards upon which you can base your decisions.

Goals and objectives should be as specific as possible without being too restrictive. If you’re going on a diet, say how many pounds you want to lose, don’t just say you want to lose weight. If you’re going to ask for a pay increase, figure out how much you need and negotiate for that amount. If you’re trying to finish a work-related project, know how much you have to have completed at each milestone. Spell out your goals so you know exactly what you’re shooting for.
