Part V: Hints and Tips > Make a Commitment

Chapter 35. Make a Commitment

Formalize your responsibilities in a commitment. Tell yourself—and others—that you’re going to dedicate every resource to the attainment of your goal. Put it in writing and then share it with your spouse, parents, children, siblings, colleagues, a favorite mentor, or others whom you trust and respect. They’ll not only share your enthusiasm, they’ll help determine your strengths and weaknesses, assess your progress, and evaluate your results.

Believe in what you’re doing and in the goals you have chosen to pursue. Establish a climate that’s conducive to change. Innovate wherever you can. Concentrate on long-term goals, but take pleasure in short-term accomplishments. Carry out your plan with vim, vigor, and vitality. Convince yourself that the journey you’re about to embark on is one you really want to tackle and that you’re fully capable of seeing it through.
