Part V: Hints and Tips > Play the Odds

Chapter 32. Play the Odds

Planning and poker have a lot in common. They both call for decisions that are based on incomplete and sometimes inaccurate information, and they’re both affected by chance. You’ll see a lot more success in your planning efforts if you know what your odds are and what cards you hold before you enter the game. You should also be able to use the principles of probability to your advantage.

What are your odds of winning a lottery? How do professors grade on a curve? How many other people are shooting for the same promotion you are? How many customers are in your territory and what are your odds of landing a sale over three other vendors?
