Definition #2

Concentration is interest in action.

Isn’t this eloquent? What is something you love to do? Have you ever gotten so engrossed in reading a good book that you lost track of time? Did you ever get so “caught up” in gardening (or any other hobby like sewing or carpentry) that hours went by and you weren’t even aware of them? If so, then you have experienced the joy of this type of concentration. This effortless absorption is almost a “zen-like” state (forgetting the self in the act of uniting with something). A musician described it this way, “I feel embraced by the spirit of music. I feel as though I am plugged into a continuum, like the muse of music. When I am my best, time has stopped and I feel as though I’m not there. It is doing.” You don’t have to work at this type of concentration, it just happens as a natural result of your total involvement in an activity you enjoy.
