Listen

The word LISTEN can be used as an acronym to remember six steps to becoming a more effective listener.

L = Look and Lean

Are you a parent? Have you ever been cooking or reading a newspaper, and your child has come up to you and said, “Mom or Dad?” You said, “Yes, dear, what do you want?” and continued to stir the soup or look at the paper. Your child probably tugged at your arm and said, “Mom, Mom, Dad, Dad.” Maybe you replied, “Yes, dear, go ahead, I’m listening.” But your child kept tugging and calling your name, until you did what? Probably until you stopped what you were doing, turned and looked at them. Children know your attention is “where your eyes are.” The first rule of listening is to attend with your eyes.
