Why Visualization Works

  1. The mind doesn’t differentiate between what’s real and what’s imagined. Sound incredible? It’s true. If you vividly imagine doing something, it’s being recorded in your mind as if it were actually happening.

  2. Confidence is a result of recent, frequent, successful practice. Wouldn’t you agree that if you do something well, you’ve done it a lot, and you’ve done it recently, you will be able to walk into that situation with confidence?

  3. Nervousness is caused by focusing on your doubts and fears. This is true, too, isn’t it? Anxiety is a by-product of thinking about what could go wrong (“Oh no, I know I am going to blow it!”), and dwelling on worries and concerns (“What if they ask me why I was let go?”).

  4. People are initially uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. You’ve probably heard of the “fight or flight” reflex. In potentially dangerous situations your body prepares you with adrenalin in case you need to defend yourself or flee.

Add these four statements together and what do you get?
