7.. EGO INVOLVEMENT

Much of what we experience falls in one of two categories: things that please us (or we agree with) or things that displease us (or we disagree with). We seem to learn best when material reinforces our strengths, opinions or beliefs. Negative ego involvement can have serious consequences on how much is remembered. When someone discusses something that is displeasing to us, we often filter out what is displeasing and only partially hear (and remember) what was said.

This happens during meetings when emotional subjects are discussed. Think about meetings you have attended when people came away with different interpretations of what was said. The following suggestions will help you remember better, even when your ego involvement is negative.
