1: What does the PAUSE acronym represent?
2: In the following dialog, Chris and Candace talk about saying “no.”

Chris: I hope I’m not bothering you. Are you busy? I could really use some advice.

Candace: Well, I am a little busy, but I’ve noticed that you seem to be pretty down lately. What’s going on?

Chris: Well, I just feel so overwhelmed. I want to talk to Shawna about lessening some of my responsibilities, but I’m afraid if I do that, she will delegate my work to someone else. If other people are given my work and do it better than I’ve been doing it, she might think that I’m expendable.

Candace: Chris, you have been taking on an unrealistic amount of work lately. I’m sure Shawna will understand that you think the quality of work is suffering. You should not be worried about being expendable. You should do the best you can and improve the quality of your work. I’m sure she’ll appreciate your honesty.

Chris: You’re probably right. I’ll talk to her as soon as possible. I really don’t have time to do everything I’m doing well.

Why is Chris overwhelmed?

What is preventing Chris from taking on too much work?

Have you ever faced a similar situation? If so, how did you resolve it?
