Private Financial Institutions

Banks perform several different roles in the currency markets. They are the middlemen for large transactions, handling large trades for corporate clients. Each of the large banks—CitiBank, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, HSBC—have departments where traders are given a pot of money and told to go make as much as possible. Some banks simply trade among themselves, using their expertise and resources to make speculative profits.
