Pedro Stays In

Red Sox Nation will forever debate whether or not Pedro Martinez should have been lifted in the 8th inning of Game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship Series against the Yankees. But he was left in, and the Yankees rallied from three runs down to win the series. Grady Little, the Red Sox manager, was blamed for Boston’s loss and fired soon thereafter. Many people wondered if he wasn’t being unfairly scapegoated for a decision others would have made. After all, Pedro was his ace, and Little’s gut told him to stay with his ace.

It’s like any field. There’s a vested interest in maintaining the status quo so you don’t have to learn anything new.
