Red Flag 8: Details of a News Report May Have Leaked Out Before Publication

Reporters working on background or investigative pieces about particular companies can inadvertently let the market know what they are working on. When researching a story, a reporter has to ask his or her source a series of questions, and if the line of inquiry isn’t disguised enough, a source can soon start to make an educated guess that a publication is working on a piece about a company’s accounting policies.
