Conclusion > Use Your System

Use Your System

Remember the icons you saw throughout the book reminding you of some universal organizing principles? “Show up and sing” is another way of saying, “Use your system.” Now that you have a great system, use it! If you don't—if you stay away too long—your system will suffer from neglect because you will forget exactly how to use it. Your bills will fall behind, you'll start getting overdrafts again, and your filing will pile up, all because the world's greatest system still needs you to provide that crucial 5%.

So, “use your system” is the key principle to keep in mind as you move forward. Over time, as you sustain your newfound organization, you will occasionally need to upgrade or modify it, and for that, you'll benefit from remembering the other organizing principles: “be consistent,” “have a home,” and “organized enough.” These are equally important in all forms of organizing, not just finances, so carry them with you as you tackle new projects and you'll find that they give you a head start on organizing absolutely anything.
