Overpayments

Mistakes happen. It is not uncommon for the Social Security Administration to make a mistake in determining the amount of your benefit check. Sometimes the mistakes are caused by the Social Security recipients who neglect to report important changes in their circumstances that would affect the amount of their check. The most common way for the Social Security Administration to recoup the money overpaid is by deducting money from future monthly payments until the entire amount is repaid.
