Chapter 10. Long-Term Care > Cost of Long-Term Care

Cost of Long-Term Care

With the cost of long-term care in a nursing home nationally averaging close to $55,000 per year (much more in some states, such as Massachusetts where the average is $77,040), financing long-term care is a major family concern. Medicare only pays, at most, for 100 days of skilled nursing home care following a three-day hospital stay. Medicare will pay the full cost for the first 20 days and then requires a daily deductible of $105 for days 21 through 100. This amount is subject to change. For the most current figures, go to the Medicare website listed in Favorite Websites at the end of this book.
