DRIPs

Dividend Reinvestment Plans, or DRIPs, are a good way to invest with no sales charges and only the most minor administration fees. With DRIPs you can buy your stocks directly from the companies in which you are investing, and you can use your dividends to purchase more stock automatically. To make things even easier, more than a thousand companies actually allow you to buy shares of stock in their company right over the Internet. Although not every company has a DRIP program, many excellent companies with which you are familiar, such as General Electric, IBM and Wal-Mart, have DRIP programs. If you are wondering why you may not have heard of DRIPs before, the reasons are that the companies themselves do not advertise their DRIP programs and that you will never hear a broker tell you about them because there are no commissions.
