Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

Regular daily activities that people generally do on their own, such as bathing, dressing, moving and feeding oneself. The inability to do a certain number of these ADLs triggers the payment of benefits of a long-term care insurance policy.



Adjusted Basis

An income tax term that relates to the initial price of property adjusted for certain additional costs related to the property, for example, a house to which the cost of improvements, such as a new bathroom, are added. Adjusted basis is used in the computation of capital gains taxes.
