Hospice Care

The first American hospice program was set up in Connecticut in 1974. Now there are more than 3,100 hospice programs throughout the country.

Hospice care involves care for terminally ill people outside a hospital setting, with the goal of providing comfort and dignity in a person’s final days. Generally hospice care is done when a person is expected to live no more than six months. Medicare will cover the cost of hospice care. You can get more information about hospice by going to the website of the Hospice Foundation of America at www.hospicefoundation.org.
