Chapter 16. End-Of-Life Issues > Health Care Proxy

Health Care Proxy

It is important to make sure that your Health Care Proxy or Advance Care Directive is in order and that it reflects your wishes as to medical care you wish and do not wish to receive. However, too much specificity in a Health Care Proxy can unfortunately serve to complicate your situation in the event of unforeseen circumstances that do not neatly fit into your wishes as expressed in your Health Care Proxy. Perhaps the better way to go is to wisely choose the person who will make health care decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated. Also make sure that you provide duplicate originals of your Health Care Proxy to that person as well as to your primary care physician.
