Remember that the whole idea of being assertive is to create win-win outcomes. By being patient and persistent with people, while adding small increments of power to your communication efforts, you have a better chance of getting what you want while allowing the other person to feel respected. Their respect for you will grow as well, which will make future negotiations with this person even easier. Most people prefer dealing with others who know how to be powerful without being intimidating, rude, or manipulative.
