Chapter 37. Instilling Confidence

When you view counseling as a communications opportunity to help another person solve a problem (or problems) you suddenly realize that the most important thing you can do is to give the individual the confidence to move ahead and implement the solution. How do you instill this confidence?

Often it means reinforcement through sincere and deserved compliments. Assume, for a moment, that you have devoted an hour or so counseling an individual and you are pleased with the results. Toward the end of the session, you might give one or more of the following compliments. Please check, in the boxes provided, the three you would be most apt to use.
