Introduction

When times get tough, it is easy for a person to lose his or her enthusiasm and turn negative. Such down periods are accelerated when organizations are forced by external conditions such as domestic and international competition and/or a recession to tighten their belts. During these times, the survivors will need to get greater productivity from employees.

The British have an expression “I’m going on holiday to sort things out.” All of us occasionally feel the need to get away and gain a new focus on our careers or our lives in general. Some of us take a short vacation to go through the process. Others can do it over a weekend at home. Still others “sort things out” by taking a long drive in the country.

During these restoration periods, it is a good idea to view yourself as a battery that has started to lose its energy and needs a recharge. Consider the “recharge machine” to be this book. The self-improvement inventory (profile) you will be taking will measure how well you have charged your battery.

One other thought.

Why not forget the conditions that existed in the past and accept more demanding challenges that can also lead to success in the future?

It is the smart thing to do!

Good luck!
