Sharing Favorites with Other Browsers

Many users like to run Internet Explorer along with another browser such as Firefox or Netscape on their machines. Unfortunately, these browsers store saved sites differently: Internet Explorer uses favorites, whereas Firefox and Netscape use bookmarks. However, Internet Explorer has a feature that enables you to either export favorites to a bookmark file or import bookmarks as favorites. Here’s how to do it:

1.
In Internet Explorer, press Alt to display the menu bar and then select File, Import and Export. The Import/Export Wizard makes an appearance.

2.
Click Next.

3.
Select one of the following:

  • Import Favorites— Select this option to import Firefox or Netscape bookmarks as favorites. When you click Next, the wizard asks you for the path to the bookmark.htm file. Click Next when you’re done.

  • Export Favorites— Select this option to export your favorites as Netscape bookmarks. When you click Next, the wizard first asks you which Favorites folder you want to export. Click Next again and the wizard prompts you to enter the path to the bookmark.htm file. Click Next when you’ve done that.

4.
This wizard performs the requested operation and then displays a dialog box to let you know when it’s complete. Click Finish.
