Customizing the Command Prompt Window

Customizing the Command Prompt Window

Windows Vista’s Command Prompt utility has its own set of customization options and settings, so I’ll discuss those first. To view these options, you have three choices:

  • If you want your changes to apply to all future Command Prompt sessions, open a Command Prompt window, pull down its control menu, and then select Defaults. This displays the Console Windows Properties dialog box. Note that the changes you make in this dialog box do not apply to the current Command Prompt session, but Windows Vista does apply them to all future sessions.

  • If you want your changes to apply only to a specific Command Prompt shortcut (such as Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt), right-click the Command Prompt shortcut icon, and then click Properties.

  • If you want your changes to apply to only the current Command Prompt session, pull down the control menu and select Properties.
