Part I : Basic Mac OS X > Working with Applications

Chapter 7. Working with Applications

You can have the best operating system in the world and never get any use out of it. That’s because, marketing entreaties aside, the operating system isn’t what you really need to work with. The applications that work within the operating system are what really matter to the user. After all, a nice screen background is all well and good, but that doesn’t get the reports done for the office.

OS X can run any of the applications created for earlier Mac OS versions, plus a host of applications designed specifically for OS X. OS X handles its applications differently than earlier versions. In this chapter, you will learn to install and remove applications, update and run them, and use Classic applications seamlessly.
