Chapter 7. Working in the Classic (Mac OS 9) Environment

In this third major release of the Unix-based Mac OS X operating system, Apple continues to accommodate those of us who use programs written for Mac OS 9. You might stick with your trusty OS 9 app because you can’t find an equivalent OS X app, prefer the features of the OS 9 app, or are just being a little frugal. Whatever the reason, Apple’s answer is the Classic environment, which enables you to seamlessly use older software while working in Mac OS X Version 10.3. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to:

Enter and exit the Classic Environment.

Start a Classic application.

Move between Mac OS X applications and Classic applications.
