Part II: Working with Applications and Disks > Finding and Preserving Files

Chapter 6. Finding and Preserving Files

Today’s computers feature large hard disks and, typically, CD writing capabilities. All this space is wonderful—until you need to find one of the thousands of files stored on a disk. That’s why the Finder in Mac OS X Version 10.3 offers enhanced capabilities to help you protect files, find files when you need them, and burn files to CD-Rs for backup and storage. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to:

Encrypt your Home folder with the new FileVault.

Index the contents of files in a specified disk or folder.

Make a .zip archive of files.

Perform a quick find.

Use more advanced find options.

Burn files to a CD-R.
