Starting the Classic Environment

Mac OS X has built-in software that enables it to run applications designed for the older Mac OS 9 (referred to as Classic applications). The Classic environment in Mac OS X offers this capability. This important feature enables you to continue using your favorite Mac applications until upgraded versions designed for Mac OS X become available.

The Classic environment starts automatically when required, running Mac OS 9.2, which installs automatically with Mac OS X Version 10.3. However, you also can start the Classic environment at any time.
