Chapter 17. Managing Your Photos with iP... > Starting iPhoto and Importing Photos

Starting iPhoto and Importing Photos

Mac OS X Version 10.3 includes the iPhoto 2 application for importing, organizing, printing, and sharing your digital photos. Mac OS X Version 10.3 supports a number of digital cameras directly, but for others you may have to install the appropriate driver software. Connect the camera to your system via the USB or Firewire port and turn it on. iPhoto will recognize the camera and launch so that you can download images from the camera to any folder on your system. To verify whether Mac OS X Version 10.3 can work directly with your digital camera, visit the following page on Apple’s Web site: http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html.

NOTE

Mac OS X Version 10.3 also includes the Image Capture application for downloading photos. You can specify whether to launch iPhoto or Image Capture when you attach your digital camera in Image Capture’s preferences. The first time you load images in iPhoto, a dialog box appears to ask you to verify that you want iPhoto to launch automatically when a camera is attached. Click on Yes to have iPhoto launch automatically.
