Chapter 23. Managing Users > Enabling Automatic Log In and Fast User Switching

Enabling Automatic Log In and Fast User Switching

If you’re the only user on your system or are the primary user, you can enable the automatic login feature, so that you no longer need to type your user name and password each time you start the system. Mac OS X Version 10.3 also offers a new feature called fast user switching. This feature enables multiple users to remain logged in to the system, so that you can quickly switch between accounts. Be aware, however, that enabling fast user switching is less secure because others can access your account information.

NOTE

If you choose not to set up automatic login, you still can change some aspects of the login process, such as whether all the users are listed. To do so, start System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, and click on Login Options.
