Starting Up

Macintosh systems have historically offered an easy startup process. Press a button on the keyboard or system; the Apple logo and the spinning starburst make their appearances; and then the OS finishes loading. With Mac OS X Version 10.3 Panther, the process works just about the same. (See Appendix A for more on setting up Mac OS X Version 10.3.)

Press the Power button, found near the upper-right corner of the keyboard or on the computer’s case to start up the Macintosh. The system will power up. If you’ve previously set up multiple users under Mac OS X (see Chapter 23), a log-on screen will appear. Click on the desired user name, enter the Password, and click on Log In. The desktop will appear.
