Archiving (Zipping) Files

Mac users have long used commercial or shareware software to archive files. The archive process compresses several files that you select into a single, smaller file. The single archive file can be emailed or otherwise shared more easily than multiple files. Mac OS X Version 10.3 Panther now offers archiving as a built-in feature. You can create an archive (with the .zip file extension) of any files that you select in a Finder window. Follow these steps to create and open an archive:
