Chapter 11. Working with Printers > Choosing the Default Printer

Choosing the Default Printer

Printers today offer a wide range of benefits and features; therefore, you can install multiple printers for use with your Macintosh. For example, you may have a color inkjet printer for printing family photos, cards, or business promotional materials. But because the inkjet ink can be a little pricey and the printer itself is slow, you may also have an inexpensive laser printer for a speedier and less costly method of printing. Use Print Center to designate which printer to use as the default printer—the printer that is first suggested in your applications. Choosing the proper default printer reduces how often you need to change the printer selection and settings before printing.

NOTE

Printers set up under Mac OS 9.2 (the Classic environment) don’t show up in Print Center, and vice versa. When you’re working in the Classic environment (see Chapter 8, “Working in the Classic (Mac OS 9) Environ-ment”), use the Chooser to install the OS 9 printer drivers and to configure printers.
