Chapter 22. Working with Other Features > Working with Speakable Items

Working with Speakable Items

The Speakable Items feature in Mac OS X Version 10.2 enables you to give voice commands in certain applications and to Mac OS X in general. (Some applications may even be able to speak text back to you.) This can be a great feature if you like to multitask while you work or want to cut down on typing and mouse use due to some hand or wrist ailment. The following steps give a quick look at how to start up and use Speakable Items.

NOTE

Speakable Items requires a microphone. If your Mac does not include a built-in microphone, you can purchase a variety of inexpensive mikes that connect via the USB port.
