Chapter 6. Using the Doc and Applications

The Dock stands out as one of the most important new features of the Aqua interface in all versions of Mac OS X. You can use the Dock to start applications in Mac OS X. You also can temporarily “park” open files and windows on the Dock. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to:

  • Start a program and select the current program

  • Save a file on disk

  • Find preference settings in an application

  • Hide and redisplay an application

  • Use the Dock as a parking place for files and folders

  • Quit an application

  • Go back to the desktop when needed
