Using Files

A file holds a particular document or set of data. Other types of files include program files or data files used by program files. This section covers the basics of managing your files in the Finder.

Opening a File

Mac OS X Version 10.2 tracks the program used to create each document file. Then, if you open a particular file, Mac OS X Version 10. 2 knows what application or program to launch to display the file. (You can use the File, Get Info command as described in the later section called “Showing Disk, File, or Folder Information” to change the application used to open a particular file.) The program files that come with Mac OS X Version 10.2 reside in the Applications and Utilities folders.
