You’re not quite ready to work on your network yet! In addition to setting up basic networking settings as just described, you need to turn on file sharing for each Mac on the network so that users can access each other’s files. (Only the files in each user’s Public folder will be shared by default.)
NOTE
You may not want to leave file sharing turned on all the time, especially if your system or network uses an always-on Internet connection such as a DSL connection. When file sharing is on, other users on the Internet (or your network) have the potential to hack into your system. So, consider disabling file sharing whenever you don’t really need to have it working to share files.
