Chapter 23.  Emergency Startup Measures  > Rebuilding the Classic Desktop

Rebuilding the Classic Desktop

There may be times when you’re working in the Classic environment and its programs start malfunctioning. In such a case, rebuilding the Classic desktop within OS X Version 10.2 can cure some of the problems.

Note that Classic typically causes problems when it sleeps, so set Classic to never sleep on the Advanced tab of the Classic pane in System Preferences. Also choose Turn Off Extensions under Startup Options on that tab to start Classic without system extensions that may cause problems. Further, once you’ve launched a Classic application, choose Control Panels from the Apple menu and use the Extensions Manager control panel to disable any Control Panels that you suspect might be causing problems with Classic under Mac OS X.
