Logging In, Logging Out, Restarting, and Shutting Down Mac OS X

Basic tasks like logging in, logging out, restarting, and shutting down Mac OS X are performed frequently as you and others use your Mac. The sections that follow briefly outline these processes.

Logging In to a User Account

As you learned previously, you must log in to be able to use a Mac OS X–powered Mac. To log in, you simply select or enter the name of the user account, enter the password, and press Return. You then move to the desktop for that user account.
