Part 3. Installing and Using Applications > Viewing Images with Preview

Viewing Images with Preview

Start up Preview (located in the Applications folder) and choose File, Open.

Choose the images you want to open in the pick list and click Open.

Click a thumbnail to switch images.

Click the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to view the image at a different magnification (press -B if you don't see the toolbar).

INTRODUCTION

Preview is a handy program designed for two purposes: looking at pictures and opening PDF files. It works well for both of those jobs. You can't edit either graphic images or PDFs with Preview, but that's not what it's for. Preview's drawer feature makes it particularly useful for reviewing several images at once, all in a single window.

TIP

Converting Formats

To save an image in a different format from within Preview, choose File, Export. In the Export dialog box, give the file a new name and select a location and a format; then click Save.

Choose File, Save As to save the file with a different name.

In the Save As dialog box, give the file a new name.

Choose a location; then click Save.
