Windows Messenger, Shared Connections, and Firewalls

There are two issues with Windows Messenger that you should be aware of: First, it can be subject to restrictions placed by Windows Firewall or other network firewalls. Second, as I've mentioned elsewhere in this chapter, Windows Messenger can have problems with Internet connections that go through a firewall or use NAT to share an Internet connection. Specifically, this means that anyone using a connection sharing router or anyone on corporate network might have to take special steps to get the advanced Messenger features to work. This section discusses some of the technical details.
