Mac OS X to the Max: iMovie Editing Shortcuts

Table 17.3 lists the name, keyboard shortcut, and a brief description of each iMovie command.

FileSave Frame As-FSaves the frame currently displayed on the Monitor as an image file outside of iMovie. This enables you to capture frames from a movie as a graphic.
FileImportShift--IEnables you to import content into an iMovie project, such as graphic files, audio files, and so on.
FileExportShift--EEnables you to export an iMovie project to videotape, to QuickTime, or for DVD.
FileShow Info-IOpens the Clip Info window thatprovides information about a selected clip.
FileEmpty TrashNoneEmpties the iMovie Trash.
EditSelect All-ASelects all the clips in the Clips pane or on one of the viewers.
EditSelect NoneShift--AUnselects any selected clips; this causes your entire movie to be shown in the Monitor.
EditCrop-KRemoves all frames that are outside the crop markers.
EditSplit Video Clip at Playhead-TCreates two clips from the current clip. The clips are separated at the location of the Playhead when the command is used.
EditCreate Still FrameShift--SCreates a still image of the current frame and places that image on the Clips pane, from which you can add it to a movie.
AdvancedExtract Audio-JExtracts the audio track from a selected video clip and places it on one of the Audio tracks where it becomes just like any other audio; for example, you can move it on the timeline, crop it, and so on.
AdvancedPaste Over at PlayheadShift--VPastes selected frames over frames in the selected clip starting at the current location of the Playhead. Use this command to replace some of the video in a clip.
AdvancedLock/Unlock Audio Clip at Playhead-LLocks an audio clip to the current location of the Playhead, such as when you place it at the beginning of a video clip when you want the audio to always remain in sync with the video clip, even if you move the video clip on the timeline. If you select a locked audio clip and use the command, the clip becomes unlocked again.
AdvancedReverse Clip Direction-RCauses the selected clip to play in the opposite direction.
AdvancedRestore ClipNoneCauses a clip to which you have applied special effects to be returned to the condition it was in when you imported it into iMovie (except for any edits you made, such as removing frames).
