Chapter 15. Working with Photos and Movies > Understanding iMovie Basics

Understanding iMovie Basics

To open a new or another project at this point, click the File menu, and then select New Project, Open Project, or Open Recent. Once iMovie is open, you can begin to add the multimedia elements you're going to use to create the movie. It's important to understand that creating a movie requires a lot of planning and forethought. You need to assemble the multimedia elements that are used to create the movie.

The iMovie application is simple to operate, yet powerful when it comes to creating professional movies, using footage from your digital movie camera, or any other digital multimedia files; including image stills and audio files. When you first launch iMovie you are asked whether you want to open an existing movie, or start out from scratch. The next time you open the application, it defaults to opening the last project.
