Adding Transitions

An iMovie wouldn't be complete without adding transitions to your work of art. Transitions are used to make two movie clips or images blend together. For example, you can create a transition between two clips that fade to black and then back again. Transitions help create a visual separation between two movie clips. You can also use transitions between still images in an animated slideshow. Transitions include such effects as: Fade In, Fade Out, Circle Opening, and Circle Closing. Experiment with different transitions to see which ones work the best.

Add Transitions

Open an iMovie project.

Click the Clip Viewer button.

Click the Trans tab.

Select a transition style from the Transitions list.

Click Preview to preview the transition.

Drag the Speed slider to control the speed at which the transition lasts.

Use the directional arrows (available for some transitions), to adjust the position of the transition.

Click Preview again to view the transition.

Drag the transition from the Transitions list to the Timeline, and then drop the transition between two clips.

Click the File menu, and then click Save Project.
