Recording Video

Recording video requires access to a digital camcorder, or even devices as inexpensive as a WebCam. When you record video, remember that these are typically large files, so you'll want a lot of free hard drive space to hold the video file. Recording video is fairly simple; all you really need to do is hook your digital camera, using a USB or FireWire port, to your computer. The iMovie application basically does the rest by detecting your camera, and showing you a preview of what the camera sees. Then you simply click the Record button, and it's on with the show.

Record Video

Open an iMovie project.

Connect your digital movie camera or WebCam to your computer.

Click the button to Camera Mode.

Click Import to start the movie capture.

Click Import a second time to stop the movie capture.

IMPORTANT iMovie saves the movie clip and places it in the Movie Sorter window.

Double-click the movie clip (in the Sorter window), to assign a specific name to the video file.

Type a Name, and then click OK.

Click the Clip Viewer button.

Drag the movie clip from the Sorter window to the Timeline.

Click the File menu, and then click Save Project.
