Chapter 14. Working with Music and DVDs > Setting iDVD Preferences

Setting iDVD Preferences

Like any good program, iDVD has preferences that allow you to adjust the application to fit your particular needs. When you modify the preferences, you're changing the application, not the project. Therefore, when you open a new project, the preferences reflects the last changes made. The iDVD application lets you adjust General, Slideshow, and Movies preferences.

Set iDVD Preferences

Open the Applications folder, and then double-click the iDVD icon.

Click the iDVD menu, and then click Preferences.

Click General, and then select from the following options:

  • Show Drop Zones. Check to display drop zones in the movie themes.

  • Show Apple Logo Watermark. Check to display an Apple logo watermark when the movie is playing.

  • Enable Background Encoding. Check to let iDVD perform encoding in the background.

  • Delete Rendered Files After Closing A Project. Check to instruct iDVD to delete its render files each time you close the project (this requires them to be rebuilt every time you reopen the project).

Click Slideshow, and then select from the following options:

  • Always Add Original Slideshow Photos To DVD-ROM. Check to save the original slides to the DVD.

  • Always Scale Slides To TV Save Area. Check to scale the slides to the safe area of a television monitor.

Click Movies, and then select from the following options:

  • Automatically Create Chapter Marker Submenu. Click this option to automatically create chapter markers when importing a file (markers are created in the originating video-editing program).

  • Never Create Chapter Marker Submenu. Click this option to turn off chapter marker generation.

  • Ask Each Time. Click this option to ask each time a movie file is imported.

Click Add to add folders that you regularly use to hold movie files or click Remove to delete a selected folder.

Quit iDVD.
